Ever since I was a kid, I have been interested in Electrical Engineering and how things work. It is hard to say specifically what first made me enjoy EE. It could be in my gene's since my father, also John Luciani, went to Northeastern University for EE and has been in the field for many years.
One of the first projects I did was that of a Theremin based on a design by Leon Theremin and revised later by Bob Moog. This was a fun and interesting project to work on because of the science of induction in which it's design is based on.
Some other projects included high efficiency low voltage power supplies. Some of the designs were based off of semiconductors made by Texas Instruments and Linear Technology. My original inspiration for these power supplies came when I realized how inefficient PS's for computers were. I wanted to design a computer that could fit into a steel briefcase and use these high efficiency power supplies that would also take up less space.
I am not sure why I enjoy the idea of designing power supplies or other projects relating to energy but certainly amidst the current problems with energy I feel it is a much needed field for Electrical Engineers. I not only look for the chance to show what I can do in the field but to also make a difference in how we consume energy.
